Preschool Program:

We are a Christ-centered preschool that provides a loving environment, which gives the children the opportunity to learn and grow emotionally, intellectually, physically and socially and spiritually.  We believe that children learn through hands on experiences and we emphasize how God created each of us to be unique and special.

Vision:

Shepherd of the Valley Preschool is a fun-loving, Christ-centered preschool that is supportive and respectful to all and is dedicated to excellence!

Years of Operation and Enrollment:

The 2012 – 2013 school year is our 31st year in operation.  We are blessed to have three, well furnished classrooms for our ministry.  We offer four three-year old classes, six four-year old classes, and one pre-kindergarten class.  Enrollment is limited to 168 students.

Preschool Ministry Team:

Our preschool is a ministry of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church.  A ministry team governs it.  The team leader is Georgia Girvan and she serves alongside Marlys Erickson, Pat Gieseke, LaVonne Wiseman, Joann Steward and Carrie Budner.  Hayley Schatz serves as our parent representative and Janelle Conaway as financial advisor.  These congregation members have given of their time and talent to be committed to this ministry and have worked toward a quality program that is a mission outreach into our community.

Pastor Support:

Pastor Jim Grunow plays a very important role in the preschool. He attends our parent orientation night before school starts and invites the preschool families to feel welcome at Shepherd of the Valley. He also offers any services that he or the church may provide for our preschool families. Pastor Jim also individually greets preschool families as they arrive for school on the days when he has chapel time for the children. During the monthly chapel time we sing and pray together and learn about how much God loves each of us.

Staff:

Our preschool program would not function effectively without the dedication and caring of our entire staff. 

The staff members who are lead teachers are: Deana DuVall, Cristy Young, Bonnie Major, Cindy Hassell and Mimi Odneal.

The assistant lead teachers are Linda Twitchell, Dena Miranda, Chris Harrington, Maureen Ollivant, and Linda Anderson. 

The Preschool Director is Bonnie Major.

Answers to Commonly Asked Questions:

Registration is in February (call in January for the exact dates)

Tours are offered with an appointment

Children must turn 3 or 4 years of age by September 1st   

All children must be toilet trained

Children have to turn 5 years before December 31st for the Pre-K class

Class enrollment is limited to 14 in the 3 year old classes

Class enrollment is limited to 16 in the 4 year old and pre-k classes

3 year old class is 2 mornings or afternoons per week

4 year old class is 2 or 3 mornings or afternoons per week

Pre-K class is offered 4 afternoons per week
